Canning supplies can be found in a variety of locations

Most people buy their canned goods in grocery stores, but a lot of people can their own vegetables, fruits, jams, jellies, and sauces. If you have a garden, or if you buy fruits and vegetables from a farmers market, you might decide to do your own canning as opposed to buying canned goods in the grocery store. It is cheaper, even when you consider the cost of the goods that you are canning and the canning supplies that you will need.

If you are an experienced canner, you have probably been gardening and canning for years. You probably have a number of canning supplies on hand so that you are able to can vegetables, fruits, jams, jellies, and sauces at a moments notice. No one can predict the exact time when fruits and vegetables will ripen. When they are ready to be picked, you only have a short period of time in which to use them before they will rot and be useless.

If you are considering canning as an alternative to buying canned goods in the grocery store, you may be unaware of the things that you will need. You will, of course, need canning jars, lids, and rings. You will also need the pan in which you place the jars. You may also need spices and preservatives that you do not normally carry as a staple in your kitchen. If you are going to make jellies, you will also need pectin or some other hardening agent. Canning supplies can be found in a variety of locations. You can purchase them in most grocery stores, as well as discount stores and supercenters like Wal-mart. Local country stores and small mom and pop stores usually carry the supplies that you will need also.
